Alappuzha District [ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ല / ஆலப்புழா மாவட்டம்], is the smallest district of Kerala. It's total area is 1,414 Sq.Km. It was formed on 17th-August-1957 as "Alleppey District". In 1990, it is renamed as "Alappuzha District" by the Kerala goverment.
Alappuzha District [ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ല], by 2011's census, there are 21,21,943 persons are in the district and in that 10,10,252 were men and 11,11,691 are women. Literacy rate of the district is 96.26%.
Alappuzha District [ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ല], is bounded on north by Kochi taluk and Kanayannur taluk of Ernakulam district, on east by Vaikom taluk, Kottayam taluk and Changanassery taluk of Kottayam district and Thiruvalla taluk, Kozhencherry taluk and Adoor taluk of Pathanamthitta District, on south by Kunnathur taluk and Karunagappally taluk of Kollam District and in the west by Lakshadweep islands in Arabian sea.
